Walking and cycling loops

Fancy a loop today?

Say how far you want to walk or cycle. GenaRoute plans three routes that start and finish at your front door, and shows you the way as you go.

How far?

We'll ask for your location; a few seconds later your loops are ready.

How it works

Out the door in three steps

Choose your distance

Walk or cycle, from 1 to 150 kilometres. Turn on what you like: woods, water, quiet roads or few climbs.

Choose your loop

You get three loops in different directions, with distance, time, elevation gain and surface. Pick the one that suits you.

Head out

GenaRoute tells you where to turn, warns you if you leave the route and points out what there is to see.

Features

Everything for a good loop

Always back where you started

Start and finish are the same place. GenaRoute avoids going out and back along the same path wherever it can.

Your preferences

Prefer woods, water or quiet roads? On the bike you can also choose paved, mixed or unpaved.

Elevation and surface

See in advance how much you'll climb and how much of the route is paved, gravel or unpaved.

Spoken directions

You hear what to do at every turn. Phone in your pocket, eyes on your surroundings.

Via your own places

Tap the map or an interesting place and your loop passes it. On the way you get a heads-up at viewpoints, windmills, castles and coffee.

Take it to your watch

Download your loop as a GPX file, with interesting places as waypoints, and put it on your sports watch or in your sports app.

Choose your difficulty

Easy, moderate or challenging. Every loop gets a label based on distance, elevation gain and surface.

Share and save

Send your loop to a friend with a single link, or save it in My loops for later.

FAQ

Good to know

Is GenaRoute free?

Yes. You don't need an account and there are no ads.

Where does it work?

Anywhere OpenStreetMap knows the paths and roads, so across Europe and far beyond. The more paths there are on the map, the better the loops.

What happens to my location?

GenaRoute doesn't store your location. To plan a loop, your starting point and the route are sent to the route planner and to the services that find interesting places. The privacy statement lists exactly which services those are.

Does it work with my screen off?

Not yet. GenaRoute keeps your screen on while you navigate. If your phone locks or you open another app, tracking pauses until you open GenaRoute again.

Does it use a lot of battery?

Navigating with GPS and the screen on uses a noticeable amount of battery, as with other navigation apps. On a long trip, turn the screen brightness down a little or bring a power bank.

Can I use GenaRoute offline?

The app opens without internet, and parts of the map you've already viewed stay visible. You need internet to plan a new loop.
